Firebug: 1/2 day class of fire making fun!

What's the class about?

Multiple fires, Multiple ways, Multiple materials. A pyro's dream come true!

In all seriousness though, fire is one, if not the most, important survival skill to learn. We'll spend the day covering firelays, fire starters, ignition devices, recognizing and using natural materials (anything and everything about fire). When you walk away from this class, you'll feel confident about your fire making skills, not just in a survival situation, but in that potentially embarrassing moment when all eyes are on you at the campsite fire ring! Never fail to start a fire again.

This class will be very hands-on. Students will make multiple fires during the class using a wide variety of natural and manmade items. Don't worry if you're not comfortable around fire. By the end of the day, it'll be like an old friend (a friend that might save your life some day).

Class Details

The first part of the class, we'll focus on the principles of fire- what it needs to get started and what it needs to keep going. We'll discuss the triangle of fire and different stages of the fire, from ember to inferno.

From there, we'll jump into natural materials and firelays. Students will have the opportunity to build numerous fires using a variety of natural materials and utilizing the various firelays.

After we see what nature provides us, we'll move on to see what inventions for fire starting necessity has bred from mankind. We'll talk about and use manmade fire starters and ignition devices. We'll also discuss what's worth carrying, and what you should leave on the store shelf.
